Meet Ryan. Ryan is a 6-year-old Ni-Vanuatu kid and he lives in the bush. Ryan made my day yesterday when he gave me a high five.  Yesterday Ryan joined the youth for a youth gathering at the Bahá'í center. We always start with prayers to bring unity and harmony amongst us. He said a prayer by heart. And kept going. Kept going. Kept going. At some point I realized it wasn't one prayer, but he was saying ALL the prayers he knew by heart. And he kept going, even though someone kindly tried to hint that it was ok if he just said one. SUCH a sweetheart. Today we got to eat some cake. He'd sit next to me and said: "Yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum…. yum!" Ryan also hi-jacked a Skype call I was having with a friend. Thrice.  I also have video material of him performing his special string band number. Everyday life / Arkipäivää

Suomeksi alempana! :) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- I've spent almost two weeks in Vanuatu. How about I tell you something about everyday life here? My day here starts around 6am. I rush to the gas cooker to boil some water for my morning tea and for other staff. I'll eat some bread and fruit if we happen to have some - and if the rat hasn't gotten to it first. Where does the fruit come from? Right now avocados are in season (and they're bigger than the ones we get in Finland!) so we just get them from the school grounds. Pineapple season is about to end, but we still have some yummy yummy pineapples growing right behind my hut! Then there's passion fruits and guavas. I like to make the other teachers laugh by telling I've never seen how pineapples or bananas or watermelons grow. Or that I've never seen an avocado tree before. They love that. Everyday moments include conversations...
